MacNamara, Kane, Lavell
« on: Friday 26 June 15 00:10 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

This is my first Mayo post!

My Ancestor Winifred Macnamara from Longford, Mayo near Crossmolina married Patrick Kane/Cain from Newport Mayo in Liverpool in 1852.  He was a forty year old widower (his age varied wildly over the years) and she was a nineteen year old widow.  Her first husband had had the surname Lavell.  Both Winifred and Patrick's fathers were called James.  They later moved to Sunderland. I think Patrick also had a sister called Honor or Nora.
Could anyone tell me which churches might have records on them (unlikely, I know).  I am particularly keen to find out about the Lavell connection. They were already in England by the time of the Griffith Valuation.
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks,
Clarrie

Hi Clarrie,

The site of the RC Chapel pre Griffiths is long gone but was situated on what is now Chapel St halfway between the junction with Ballina St and the current Church St. Tiernann’s Church  also on Chapel St.

The NLI will be releasing free online the microfilmed parish registers on the 8th July the period covered is detailed in the above link.
