I have made an appointment to view the Catholic burial register at Motherwell Cathedral tomorrow morning. You may be lucky - then again you may not. Its worth a try anyway.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

I kept my appointment this morning but unfortunately, the book could not be found. They think it may be in the Diocesan Office and I have to go back on Tuesday, they may have found it by then.
It's changed days in Motherwell Cathedral!

Tom apparently was a mayor? in motherwell, but i have been unable to find any info on this either

Not surprising, since the office of mayor does not exist in Scotland. If he was the civic head, he would be called the Provost, not the Mayor. Try searching with provost instead of mayor and see if that helps.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
