Hatt / Flatt cottage largs 1919
« on: Friday 26 June 15 06:24 BST (UK) »
I was hoping someone may know where Hatt cottage in Largs is. My father was born there in 1919, his father was George Maclachlan shipping clerk not sure what shipyard he would have been with.

Hi ozzie mel

Can I give you an idea to try? Maybe look to the Valuation Rolls to see if you can find your grandfather George McLachlan c. 1920 in Ayrshire?

Valuation Rolls are this www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/FAQs/Questions/index.aspx?2133 Have to say though, not seeing a reference to a Hatt Cottage in Ayrshire on the index so far, leaving out any surnames  :-\ May be that it was indexed as a street name and number perhaps?

Monica  :)

Hi Mel

Flatt likely makes more connections...

There is a Flatt Farm and Flatt Farm Cottages showing in the 1901 census in Largs. Think Flatt Farm and land is now redeveloped, with references such as this www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/na/PublicNotices.nsf/c46d8fd107cfcbee8025694300412f95/8530e93be133c1ae802573d2005076f8?OpenDocument

Some current images and location of the original Flatt Farm area here and cottage(s?) http://canmore.org.uk/site/311012/flatt-farm

Area looks to have been completely developed really: www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.794386,-4.854672,3a,75y,346.39h,71.93t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUo_SewQ4QkPrLNkz-rkolw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Likely you will need to dig into local archives to try to find possible futher info.

Thanks Monica the farm makes sense because my grandmother Elizabeth Maclachlan nee Campbell s father was John Campbell butcher from Greenoch he possibly had dealings with the farmer and found lodgings for the Maclachlan family while George Maclachlan was fighting with the Royal Fusiliers.
