Craggs Farm - Woodhouse Eaves
« on: Saturday 27 June 15 08:31 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone with local knowledge know anything about Craggs Farm Woodhouse Eaves?  I have an interest in a couple of absent voters registered there in 1918/9, for  WW1 research.

Thanks

Hi Diddy,

Thanks for the response, unfortunately that photo is from Starbotton on Yorkshire Moor.  I'm after a Craggs farm in or around Woodhouse Eaves.

Best wishes,
Spark

so sorry.

Craggs farm, situated between Loughborough & Nanpantan was sold
in Aug 1918 as part of the Burleigh estate (local family & landowners).

Woodhouse Eaves just along road out of Nanpantan.

I just remember the Cragg's Farm estate before houses were built on it. we used to cross it to go up to the Outwoods - part of Charnwood Forest.

will check library - they have old maps etc.
Are you looking for anything specific?

The farm can be seen on the following maps before the houses were built:-

http://maps.nls.uk/view/101592132
Adjacent to the first 'N' of Nanpanton

And larger scale:-
https://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html#/Map/451208/317459/12/101099

and this one after the houses were built in front:-
https://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html#/Map/451208/317459/12/100954

If any trouble with the links, go to www.old-maps.co.uk and search on the postcode  LE11 3YD. Zoom in or out as necessary and load any of the 1:2500 maps. It isn't named on any of the earliest maps but is in 1921 and 1964. Still there on the 1967-8 1:10,650 map but not on any after that.
Just to the right of Burleigh Farm. The old maps are only visible if zoomed out far enough.

David

Hi David,

Many thanks for the links, I know that farm track, which is now an alleyway (jitty) from Nanpantan Road to the new estate (1960s). Not named on Cassini 1902-3 map I have.

What doesn't make sense is why it is on the electoral register as Woodhouse Eaves - at least on the transcribed index I have bought.  A trip to Wigston required to see the originals.

Thanks for your help David and Diddy

Cheers,
Spark
