Was that her own signature? I wondered if it could be Christina Blunt, the writer not being too sure of the spelling.

I don't think it's Chartina's signature, that looks like a marriage index record to me. Boyds or Pallots?

Can the OP give more information about this couple? Who were their children? Where were they born? What record(s) show the name Chartina in relation to being the name of the mother of James' children? Did this couple live long enough to be on the census?

There is a tree on A***  that has James Taylor and Chartina Bluent but only one child, Edgar is mentioned. However Edgar is stated to have been born in 1797 at Woore in Shropshire which is before the date of the marriage at Boningale on Dec 31, 1798. So Edgar is not likely a son of James and Chartina.  Even less likely because an Edgar Taylor son of James was baptized at Woore on 17 March 1795. (Source: Family Search)  A James Taylor had two other children baptized at Woore,
Thomas on 3 Sep 1797 and Mary on 11 March 1792.

So, did James' first wife die and then he married Chartina?

Bluent does not seem to be a 'proper' surname but there are a couple of Chartinas around the ridges.

The Shropshire parish records are available to view on Find My Past, Chartina made her mark so no signature to read and Bluent doesn't look like a mistranscription.

Is Bluert a surname? Am thinking Blunt is a possibility as already suggested by Susie.

I agree with Susie and Ruskie. this marriage took place very close to the border with the North Midlands. If you say Blunt with a North Midlands accent I think it could very likely be mistranscribed as Bluent. Given that the bride made her mark it's also possible that she would not notice the spelling. Remember that what was written was what the writer heard.
