Tingey SABEY or is it John?
« on: Monday 29 June 15 17:10 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I'm wondering if someone has access to the baptism records for Blunham Beds as I have a rellie query.

I've traced back to Tingey SABEY but get a bit confused as on a couple of different sites there are baptisms listed as both 1792 and 1795, also for both John Tingey SABEY and Tingey SABEY but both with father Tingey SABEY and mother Mary.

So, in essence, can anyone check the baptism records for 25 December 1792 or 1795 and let me know if it is John Tingey SABEY or no John, and any other info.

(for Tingey also read Tingay and SABY, SEABY, SABEY, etc)

Your hopefully,

Hi Fiona

I'm sure someone will look for you, but just wondering if there were two sons? Perhaps the first child died and they named the other one after him?

Regards
giggsy

Hi Giggsy purr,

I did wonder that but both records (transcriptions only) have exactly the same details (including the film no) with only one digit of the year different.  And I admit I was hoping whoever (please) can look it up will let me know if that's the case!

Hi John-P,

Sun worshipping aside, this is when it's get a bit interesting as I did find that post but don't yet have a Maria in my tree.  I've got a Mary, but my current Tingey John or not, married a Hannah GOODMAN and not an Elizabeth.  I still trying to get him fixed before I go onto the other SABEYs (I got badly distracted with James SABEY who (if the right one) was a pioneer of the Mormons).

Who said family research was dull!

Thanks,

Came in from the garden, but missed this thread last night. Brain was fried, so had to go into the Irish pub to cool down. Too hot! At 6.30 yesterday evening it was 36C (that's the temperature John, don't get overheated!) and it's getting hotter later in the week. And I'm out of cold beer.

I agree with John. Two separate sons, John Tingey, and Tingey.

John married Elizabeth Clark in Blunham on 30 Jun 1811 and appeared in censuses as John and doesn't seem to have used his middle name, and Tingey married Hannah Goodman in Renhold on 4 Oct 1814.

It was Tingey's son James who joined the Mormons and emigrated to Utah, arriving in the US on 22 May 1861

I assume that James' sister, Rhoda Sabey, was your ancestor

And if you can find the marriage of John Sabey to Jane probably Tingey c 1738 I'd be very grateful!

David

Hi John-P and David,

Oh my, many thanks for that info.  I didn’t really think there would be two but I’m often surprised in the game called family.

I am indeed related through Rhoda SABEY and got onto this quest with my GGGrandfather who was called James Sabey SMITH, born 1860 in Biggleswade.  He keeps getting confused with another James Sabey SMITH born 1870 in Huntingdon (so 10 years and 20 miles apart).  It is quite an unusual name, especially in the world of SMITHs so I was sure there was a connection.  Finally with a bit of time to spare I’ve managed to track them both back to Tingey SABEY!  I’m quite chuffed though suspect I’m not the first.  And now I have both James Sabey SMITHs in my tree!!!  And a whole posse of SABEYS.

So then my next question is whether we’re Great Cousins too?   What is your connection to the Sabeys?  And I’ll keep hunting for that marriage but suspect you’ve been at it for a while, so don’t hold your breath.  Do you know if James SABEY was religious before he left the UK?  And was he/ his father & family already Seven Day Adventist?  And if yes, are they part of the non-conformist group of records?   So many questions.

I don’t normally get chance to family tree during the week but got so excited by the name of Tingey I couldn’t wait until the weekend....

And the next task will be trying to tie the two SMITH families – now that won’t be easy.
