Pte John Mason from New York, died 1919 England
« on: Wednesday 01 July 15 11:17 BST (UK) »
I am involved in a project that is researching the lives of 64 service personnel who died in WW1 and were buried at Hipswell Church, Catterick. I am looking for some more details about John Mason.

John Mason was aged 27 when died of cerebral meningitis on 23rd March 1919, Military Hospital, Catterick Camp.

His army no. 59245, he joined Royal Warwickshire Regt on 17th August 1918 at Dover.

From the records I have found he had married Mary Winstone on 1st September, 1915 in Astbury, New Jersey.

On his war record it states that his widow was living at 200 W 131st New York.

Can anyone help me to see if there were any children born to this marriage, what happened to Mary and what had John done before he joined the Army.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I've never heard of Astbury, New Jersey.  Could it be Asbury?

Do you have an exact date of birth or middle name for him?  I thought this WWI draft registration card - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K6NY-KPG - was interesting, because it mentioned he had children in New Jersey and became a US citizen by his father's naturalization, which would make him more likely to enlist overseas.
