Wexford Burial Records?
« on: Thursday 02 July 15 19:03 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if someone would know who to contact to find a burial record . My husband and i are planning to go to Wexford later this year and he would like to visit the graves of his great, great grandparents Patrick Clampett (died 1930) and Johanna Clampett nee James died 1932. The last address we have for them is in the Faythe. We heard they may be in Crosstown cemetery but would like to make sure before we visit. I have emailed the archives but haven't had a reply as of yet .Any help would be much appreciated :-)

RC registers are coming on line, free, next week!
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

Few of the parish records in the National Library go up to the 1930s, and in any event many RC parishes didn’t keep burial records. So you may still need to check with the custodian of the cemetery to see if they have a record of these graves.

Thankyou all for your help :) I contacted the lady who has the records for Crosstown cemetery but they are not there. I will try emailing the archivist as they say she should be able to help me find out where they are buried.

Can you say who/where is the archivist you mention?
Also, who has the records fro Crosstown cemetery (St. Ibars)?

To get back to your original query, there may or may not be a burial record, depends where they were buried. If they were buried in a municipal cemetery, such as St. Ibars, then there are very complete records, showing who was buried when, and also who is buried in each plot. But older graveyards may have no records at all.

The archivist i was told to contact is Grainne Doran . I haven't heard anything back yet but i understand they may be busy.
I phoned Wexford council and they put me through to a lady called Kathleen Morris who has the records for St. Ibar's and she checked for me there and then but you can also email the council and she will get back to you.
I understand a lot of people from that area are buried in Piercestown parish so i have also emailed them to see if they can help  :)
