Posting as a Guest?
« on: Friday 03 July 15 07:46 BST (UK) »
I didn't think that was possible.
On a few occasions recently, I have either been doing a search for an old thread I have contributed to, or searching on a particular topic to see if there is already a thread on it and I have found posts from people who have "Guest" underneath their screen name.
The link on the user name is not active, so not possible to click and see when they were last active etc.
How is it possible to post as a guest? When my computer throws a wobbly and I don't get automatically logged in and it says I'm a guest, I don't get a reply button at the bottom of the thread I'm reading.

Hi Lizzie,

Guests cannot post topics or replies.  What you are seeing are the posts from people who were once members of RootsChat but have now left. Their RootsChat profiles have been deleted, but not their posts.

regards,
Bob

Thank you, I understand now.
But why would anyone want to leave Rootschat? Unthinkable!

Some people 'think' they have completed their family history  ;D ;D ;D

After more than 30 years I can't even get past quite a few brick walls(we're a common lot!)

I think also (something stirring in my memory from a couple of years ago), that one or two have been helped through the exit door after being reported for being obnoxious.

I stand to be corrected of course, but I do remember 'reporting to mod' myself.

Not that I was reporting myself to Mod of course, but I hope you fathom out my meaning. :-\

I know what you mean msr ;D

I have seen a couple that have "Requested Leavers" under their profiles, but that was years ago when I think a discussion got very heated.  Also seen the Guest a couple of times, but with BB's explanation I understand now.

Cheers
