For Reference - were the family living under the name of Ainsworth in 1881 at Back of 45, Constitution Hill, Birmingham and mother Emma was widowed?

Emma Ainsworth Widow 39    Carder Of Hooks & Eyes    Birmingham
Walter B 17 Brassworker    Birmingham
Mary A 14    Birmingham
Stephen W 12 Birmingham
Charles 9 Birmingham
Eliza    6 Birmingham
Minnie 4 Birmingham
Albert 2 Birmingham

There is a possible death for Emma later in 1881 - Emma Ensor age 40 - Dec 1881 Birmingham    6d 102

If Albert's mother  died when he was just 2 it is quite probable he would be taken into the workhouse as the Albert Ensor was in 1891

In Marston Green there was a boys home which subsequently Chelmsley hospital so he could have been in there. There was also a Father Hudson's home in Coleshill itself but that was to my knowledge always know as Father Hudson's.

This site on the workhouse states that the Birmingham Archives and Heritage Service at the  Library of Birmingham holds the Marston Green Cottage Homes registers (1880-1934) http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Birmingham/
