Irthlingborough burial look up please for Harriett Hollowell
« on: Friday 03 July 15 12:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone out there may have burial records for Irthlingborough please?

Harriett Hollowell died August 1913 and I was wondering if she was allowed to be buried in the churchyard as her death was a suicide? she was only 37 and her death was in the local papers as she left letters to say her husband was to blame. Very sad.

Thank you for taking time to read my post and thank you to those able to reply

Best Wishes
Wendy

The inquest in the Newspaper Archive makes sad reading.

One of my ancestors took his life in the same river (Nene) in Peterborough in 1831. He was allowed a church burial but I am not sure if this would apply in all case. There are burials online but they only go up to 1912.

You could try emailing the church to see if they still have the burial records or if they've been submitted to the Peterborough Diocese and therefore might be available at the Northampton Record Office.

Hi David, yes it is a very sad tale, she must have been such a troubled soul bless her. I know a lot of suicides were buried in unconsecrated ground as were unbaptised babies, murderers etc :(

Hi Carol, I think the NRO have the burial records for Irthlingborough up to 1908 so thank you I'll use your link to email the Rector.
I thought I'd pop a cheeky post on here first just in case someone just happened to have a copy  ;)

Many thanks
