Death of Hannah Stanger nee Steele
« on: Friday 03 July 15 18:02 BST (UK) »
Hello

I was wondering if someone could assist in finding a death date for a relative.

Hannah Steele, daughter of John Steele and Hannah Gair was born in Great and Little Clifton, Cumberland in 1870.

She is with John Stanger on the 1901 census, whom she married in 1894. The family is absent on the 1911 census and there is a death on the Barnsley registration district in 1903 of a Hannah Stanger.

Is this her? The age of death correlates with her birth year, however I cannot find them on the 1911 census, therefore I do not know if they moved to around Barnsley.

If she died in Ryton, which is where they are in 1901, she would have gone under the Gateshead registration district

In addition, her father is on the 1911 census living with the Fox family in Durham, all 11 children are apparently alive and accounted for, this would mean Hannah did not die in 1903, although this could be an error due to human fallibility
thanks

I can't open the census up because I haven't got World Wide but I can see a John Stanger with wife Hannah in the 1930 American census it says he was born 1873 England they are in Illinois and the same in 1940. I can also see a 1920 census for a Agnes Stanger with father John born circa 1901 England.
Just a thought I can't see the family either in 1911.

The 1903 burial in Barnsley is possibly for a Hannah Stanger born circa 1872 in Crigglestone in the 1901 census the family were living in Wombwell which is on the outskirts of Barnsley so the death would have been registered in Barnsley.

Ancestry Passenger Lists has the following:-

Arrival Quebec, Canada 29/7/1910 aboard ship 'Virginian'

John Stranger (adult)
Hannah Stranger (adult)
Hannah Stranger age 10
Agnes Stranger age 8
Mary A Stranger age 6

Destination;- Johnson city, Ill.

Hence wouldn't be on the 1911 census.

Hope this is the correct family for you,

That looks like them, Agnes and John are on the 1901 census and the Hannah whom died in 1903 is not my Hannah

Appreciate the help

In the 1940 census, John & Hannah appear to be in Sullivan, Sullivan Co., Indiana.  It should be available on www.familysearch.org.

Hannah is on the obituary index from the Sullivan Co. library.  http://www2.sullivan.lib.in.us/obituaries/default.aspx
