Birth in Armagh 1867 - BOYD
« on: Sunday 05 July 15 08:52 BST (UK) »
 Hi ,

Would like to find the birth entry for Meta Sophia BOYD, I believe she was born around 1867 in Armagh.

Would also like to find her marriage to Willaim H JACKSON. She emigrated to Australia as JACKSON (widow) on the S.S. Mauretania 17 August 1918 from the UK.

Any information would be very much appreciated

Interesting 1911 census record here for a Chas Robert Jackson (be sure to click on "Show all information" to reveal the Birthplace and Occupation):

Incidentally, in the Australian attestation papers for Charles Robert Jackson of 1914 ...

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01flr/

... the next of kin details (subsequently deleted) for his mother "Meta Sopphia? [indistinct] Jackson gives her address as a hospital (it looks like the letters B.O [indistinct], possibly B. Op.) in Great Victoria St, Belfast.

The only hospital I can find for that time in Great Victoria Street, Belfast, is the Belfast Ophthalmic Hospital:

1910: 116. The Belfast Ophthalmic Hospital - Consulting physician, Sir William Whitla; surgeon, J. Walton Browne, assistant surgeon; Cecil E. Shaw, clinical assistant, H. H. B. Cunningham; Miss Hewitt, matron

1918: 116. The Belfast Ophthalmic Hospital - Consulting physician, Sir William Whitla; surgeon, J. Walton Browne; assistant surgeons, H. H. B. Cunningham Wicklif McCready, Rowland Hill and W. A. Anderson; matron, Miss E. McCracken

It later went on to become Shaftesbury Square Hospital.

Here's another possibility, a Sophia Jackson who is a matron / trained nurse, born County Armagh, resident in Great Victoria Street in 1911, the age is slightly on the young side:

But when one looks at the original household return, it doesn't look unlike Meta Sophia Jackson (or are my eyes deceiving me???):

gaffy,

Thank you very much for your help, very much appreciated.

Your eyes are not deceiving you it is definately Meta Sophia JACKSON on the Census of Ireland 1911.

Yes, in 1911 the age is slightly on the young side: I believe she was 22 when she had Charles 1889, so, if it's correct, she was born in 1867. That is why I had hoped to get her birth entry, to confirm this.

Thank you very much for your help, very much appreciated.

aghadowey,

Thank you for that.

Would like to find her marriage to ? Jackson and his death entry. Perhaps she never married, and took the name Jackson from somewhere  :-\
