Dating Maoriland postcard
« on: Monday 06 July 15 05:59 BST (UK) »
Not sure if this is the best place to put this but I am hoping that someone may be able to give me an idea of when this postcard was sent to my grandmother.

Thanks for looking.

Hard to tell. It certainly doesn't look like that today. Had a brief look at the National Library collection of images. Found this one.

http://natlib.govt.nz/records/22524114?search[category]=Images&search[century]=1900&search[decade]=1910&search[path]=items&search[text]=Picton+harbour

It's looking the opposite direction but shows the same arrangement of wharves and a similar collection of pleasure boats. The tongue of the reclamation is also in much the same place. Library dates theirs at circa 1910. Yours too maybe.

You may find some indication in here Nanna.  I googled "Maoriland Postcards FT Series.

I'll keep googling see if I can find at least what the FT Series was, and when they were done.  I've already noted that some of our very early postcards were made in England! Lol

Alan and Jeanne thanks for your answers and research.  My grandmother, Enid, was born in 1892 and died in 1933 so 1910ish would be good timing for it.
Unfortunately the family was quite dysfunctional and until I began my family history I didn't know they existed.

If you send the scan to www.pictonmuseum-newzealand.com I am sure they will be able to help - it also includes the Historical Society.

Good luck.

Thank you for that site Maddys, it has narrowed the time frame a bit.  I hadn't thought of searching for Tanner Brothers Ltd, I was looking for Maoriland Postcards

Great site Jeanne and good find maddys52  :)

Can rule out 1906 as divided backs didn't start until 1907 and the white edges started around 1915, may help a bit ... by half a decade perhaps.

Nice one to have in your collection of memories of your grandmother Nanna52
