Conaghy Calling

Thanks for the info on the OS maps. I feel pretty sure it is the correct area. I had a look at the Griffith listings but found the whole area full of Murphys so not too sure of where to go from here. My guess is that Anne Murphy could possibly have been born c1830 and I doubt if there would be any church records for that period or even the church where she could have been baptised. As I live in South Africa, it's not easy to follow up information as the Irish records generally are somewhat difficult to trace.

Best Regards

Spelt Knocklonagad on Griffiths Valuation.

I see 6 Murphy entries on Griffiths for Knocklonagad.

www.rootschat.com/links/01fnb/

Usually in Griffiths if the same name appears more than once in a townland, if they are actually different people, there will be something added to the name, such as Senior, junior or a nickname to differentiate between them.
Also check the map references for each Murphy and from whom they hold the tenancy.  This may cut down the actual number of the Murphys.

Some general info on Griffiths on this link.

Hope this helps.  :)

Looking for assistance, trying to trace an Anne Murphy who was a midwife from a small village called Knocklinagad (?)  in County Carlow, not  sure of the spelling.  Anne ::) moved to Dublin and married a man called Ellis and lived in Sandymount Dublin. I think they may have been living in Dublin around 1860. Anne and her husband had eight children. My grandmother Elizabeth Mary was born in Dublin in 1851 and married Michael Connolly in July 1878 in the Star of the Sea Church in Sandymount Dublin.
Knoclonagad is in Sliguff civil parish Bagnelstown R.C. parish and these records are now online for free at the NLI site. Also do you have this baptism for Mary Ellen Ellis b.2 Dec 1869 bapt 13 Dec 1869 St Paul's parish Arran Quay Address 11 Aughrim Street not SandymountParents James Ellis Ann Murphy St Paul's parish records are now online  if you want to check them.

Hi Annclare

Many thanks for your contribution but something doesn't appear correct with the dates.
The names appear to be correct but I have trouble with the birth date for Mary Ellen as I understood she was married in the Star of the Sea Church Sandymount on 1st July 1878 and their first child Elizabeth (Eilish) was born in December 1879. If she was born in 1869 she would only be nine years old when married and ten when the first child was born? I think there is something wrong here.

The 1869 baptism was a transcript from rootsireland a pay site and you are quite right the year is wrong- I checked St Paul's baptism register for Dec 1869 and there is no Ellis registered. Sorry about the confusion- I will check with rootsireland and see if they can throw any light on it.

It's not an easy task getting all your ducks in a row, especially when the records lead you astray. many thanks for your efforts. Hopefully we'll get it sorted in time.
