Death at sea - Catherine WHITTAKER ca. 1927
« on: Thursday 09 July 15 11:47 BST (UK) »
Hi Rootschatters,

We're wondering if anyone can throw any light on this limited information please?

We're told that Catherine Whittaker died at sea between Ireland and Scotland possibly around 1927.

We have this but wondered if anyone can find anything more please:

Death at sea - C Whittaker - 1927

but we don't know if it was registered in Ireland or Scotland - we can't find it!

She was quite young having been born in 1906, she was visiting family in Scotland but we don't know if she died going there or returning to Ireland.   We don't know what she died of but we don't think it was in a sinking!

Hope someone can fill in any details, she was unmarried.

Many thanks

Hi Cranstone

What is the source of the info: Death at sea - C Whittaker - 1927?

Just been having a look at this info:

Marine Register (from 1855) includes births and deaths on British-registered merchant vessels at sea, where it appears that one of the childs parents or the deceased was usually resident in Scotland.
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?415

By the sound of it, Catherine was only visiting Scotland? Like you have found, cannot see any trace at all of Catherine's death on Scotlands People  :-\

Hello Monica

Thank you for looking, I did look at Scotlands People but could find nothing under C or Catherine.

The info. I have was given to me and I said I would try and find something more for them.

Thank you for taking the time to look.

Yes, we think she was just visiting.

Kind regards

I have an uncle who died at Sea during ww2. No records are held on the Scotlandspeople site
they are held in The Marine Register in Register House, Edinburgh. I wrote to them and was sent
a complete record of the incident (for a small fee) with a Death Certificate from the Register.

James.

Hello, thank you to all of you who have tried to help, maybe Findmypast was where the information came from in the first place.  I will try the other suggestion and see if they can help us.
