Have you got the actual death certificates of his parents, to know who the informants are?  The lucky find would be John's wife....

When you say he disappeared as a young man, have you got an actual date for that, or just no further information after his birth?

Theoretically he could still be alive.

Hello.

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, I have the death certs for his parents and unfortunately neither John Thomas Gibbs or his wife (if he married?) were informants.

Nothing traced after his birth - I am stuck and not sure if I can go further in tracing him.
It's very disappointing.

I have now found that he was in the Queens Own (Royal West Kent) regiment - 6th Battalion during WW2. His service number was 6347858 and he was wounded on 23 Apr 1943 in North Africa.
I cannot find a death so assume he survived the war.

Does anyone know if I can apply for his full war record (he was my uncle)? If so, will that give me any info that might enable me to trace what happened to him?
Anyone know how/where I apply and how much it might cost?

He disappeared from the family and I really want to know what happened to him and if he married etc.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

You can apply to the MOD, however you need a death cert.
