Tithe Applotment: Help with four townland names in Laois/Queens
« on: Thursday 09 July 15 20:02 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

In trying to decipher some Ancestry. com and the National Archives transcriptions of the Tithe Applotment books, I am looking for the current day location of these four townlands:

Tanners Meadows, Lea
Monarea Beg, Offerlane
Bacca, Offerlane
Aughanlee, Clonenagh and Clonagheen

Any ideas? I've used up all my tricks including scouring the old maps available at OSI.  I'm looking for where to place a pin in a map but need to know where in the Parish the townland actually is.

Do you think perhaps:

Mongach Bheag/Monnagh for "Monarea Beg"?

and maybe

Leacach/Lacka for "Bacca"?

I wouldn't know... maybe someone with more local knowledge.

Isn't there a map to zoom out from which might show a town??

Hi There

Do you have a surname that you are researching in the areas that might make it easier.

The word looks like BOG to me and Laois has it"s fair share.
