My head is beginning to spin. So now it looks as if my Samuel Carline Slack may have been married, not once, or even twice, but three times ... maybe.
I am nigh convinced that his first wife 'was' Martha Jackson (1833-1856), and now a 'second' wife .... a Sarah ?, who may also have died, because I know that he marries again, this time to Maria Williams, on 10th September 1866, at Milford. This third marriage looks to have endured, because he goes on to have at least five more children with Maria, who looks to have come into the marriage, with a son of her own, Willoughby Williams, born 1859.
I am going to have to sit down in a darkened room, with a refreshing cup of strong coffee, so that I can begin to sort all these surprises out, and fill in the current dates & places blanks.
What I have also just noticed, thanks to all you wonderful people, is that on the 1861 Census there is mention of a daughter, who again I suspect has been partly mistranscribed. She is transcribed on Ancestry as Mary E E Slack, aged 1. But looking on FamilySearch.org I have found a 'Mary Elizabeth Carline Slack' - and so we appear to have come full circle (remembering that the first post in this thread was about finding Samuel Carline Slack's parents). I feel sure that the two middle names given to Mary, born 1859, pretty well ties down the orginal Samuel's first wife, as Elizabeth Carline, not Sarah ? - will still follow it up though.
Now back to my darkened room, looking to confirm Samuel C Slack's 2nd wife's information
Regards,
Alan
