My x 2 great grandmother Harriett Clark, nee Loveland, gave birth to a daughter Mary in 1872, she was living at 18 Rathbone place, oxford st, but gave birth at a address in lambeth. The address was 1 farmers cottages which i think may have been renamed Pathfield st/rd.
Why would she give birth here unless she had family. I have checked the 1871 census and put in all surnames i.e Clark they were from scotland and loveland who are all from surrey. I am ever so confused. Any ideas please as to what were these cottages.

Maybe she was just in the area when labour started, could she have been working there  ???

It does not appear to be the workhouse http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Lambeth/

She married in Lambeth in 1870 - her address was 67 Carlisle Street so she was not a complete stranger to the area.

She was in Lambeth in the 1871 census too: at 20 Vine Terrace.

Presumably the birth certificate shows one address as the residence and the other as the place of birth. Is it feasible that they were living at Farmers Cottages when the child was born, and had moved to Rathbone Place by the time the birth was registered?

I am not finding any record of an address "Farmers Cottages" in the Lambeth area in any of the censuses or anywhere else. Are you sure that's what it says?

Hello

yep I entered farmers cottages lambeth and it shows an old wooden building, yep I also thought maybe she had Mary at one address and then moved to Rathbone place. Her husband james was a brewers drayman, so maybe he worked for more than one brewery. I looked up the address and it is now pathfield st.

                Thank you for your thoughts

I can see references to picture postcards of some farm cottages in what is now Pathfield Street but that's in Streatham. So I don't think that's the right answer.

Is this the reference to Pathfield Street  :-\

P12. Farm cottages, now Pathfield Street,  Streatham. C1870

How can you be sure that Farmers Cottages, Lambeth & Farm Cottages, Streatham are the same place  :-\

Red post, sorry Shaun am duplicating what you are saying  ::)
