Galley family name
« on: Saturday 11 July 15 22:28 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I started tracing my family roots and can get back as far as St. Peters Port,(Park St.) Guernsey Is.(1842)with Phillip Galley born around 1804, married Susan who was also born 1804. I believe he had one child in Guernsey (Mellane), the rest are Canadian Thomas-1845, Jane -1847, Maria - 1849, Rosanne -  1857, William J. - 1861.
I contacted people in the government of Guernsey and they told me this surname (Galley) does not exist on the Island now, only the names Le Gallais or Le Gallez.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

married Susan who was also born 1804.

If Susan was born 1804 - she could not have had children in 1857 and 1861

There is this 1841 entry for Jersey - all born there

Philip Gallie   40 shoemaker
Susan  40
Mary  15
HO107 Piece 1461/4 Folio 8 Page 9

There is an 1851 entry for another Philip & Susan Gallie aged 40 and 34 who have 7 children but cannot be yours if your Philip & Susan were in Canada before 1851
