2 Jane Sleightholms 1600s/1700s Gt Edstone help needed
« on: Sunday 12 July 15 09:40 BST (UK) »
Hi

I've had so much help over the years and done so much research on mine and hubbys family trees that I felt confident enough to start printing the info out at last, which is always a sign of an imminent disaster and that could turn out to be an understatement

Just checked on freereg for confirmation on the Sleightholm families, the Great Edstone PRs aren't the easiest to read so just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything

Problem 1 hubbys tree

THOMAS DODGSON c1675 Gt Edstone to William Dodgson & Jane Wilson, buried 16 May 1731 Gt Edstone. JANE SLEIGHTHOLM 1677 Gt Edstone to John Sleightholm & Elizabeth Walker bapt 23 Mar 1677.  Jane was buried 21 Sep 1748  Gt Edstone,  Thomas married Jane 5 May 1698 Gt Edstone.  6 children all born Gt Edstone William bapt 16 Mar 1698 Elizabeth bapt 14 Apr 1703 THOMAS 1705 Sarah bapt 6 May 1708 Jane bapt 6 Jan 1710 George bapt 18 May 1714.

Here's the problem freereg transcription Jane Sleightholm dau of John buried St Michael & All Angels Gt Edstone 25 Oct 1682.  Now if John and Elizabeth had a 2nd dau Jane the same year we would be ok she would be 16 in 1698 but I can't find another Jane Sleightholm born around 1670-1682 in Great Edstone

Problem 2 my family tree

ROB'T PEIRSON c1729 Rosedale.  Robert Peirson  Rosedale,  buried 6 Sept 1799. JANE SLEIGHTHOLME 2 bapts 15 Apr & 5 May 1728 Gt Edstone to Bartholomewe Sleightholm & Mary Stonehouse . Rob't married Jane 26 June 1766 Rosedale. Possible death for Jane although age is out by 3 years, Jane died 21 February 1814 Haygate, Rosedale aged 83. 3 children born Rosedale, Han bapt 20 Aug 1769 ANN born 8 Dec 1772 Thomas bapt 28 Aug 1774

Here is the problem. Jane dau of Bartholomew Sleightholm buried 3 Jan 1747/8 Gt Estone St Michael & All Angels, which means she cannot be the one who married Rob't, I know Gt Edstone is 8 miles from Rosedale, but as Jane is the first Sleightholm to appear on the Rosedale Indexes there isn't another Sleightholm family in the area until 1800 and the Sleightholm family up until then lived in the Gt Edstone area, and like hubbys family there doesn't seem to be another Jane Sleightholm who could have been born around 1720's-40's.

Any help would be very much appreciated on either or both families

Update  I have edited family trees over the years had to do otherwise they would be twice as big, one of the casualties was spouses of ancestors siblings, but double checking everything I might have an alternative Jane for the 1677 one, John's brother Matthew had a daughter Jane in 1676 but I was convinced that I had seen an alternate marriage or death meaning she couldn't be the wife of Thomas Dodgson, so far I cannot find anything to confirm this, if so then it does look like she may be the correct Jane Sleightholm, now to try and find my Jane Sleightholm :-\

Has anyone come across Jane Sleightholm bapt 21 July 1731 dau of Geo Sleightholm Goathland?

The age for this Jane would match Jane's burial in Rosedale in 1814

also Jane Sleightham bapt 13 June 1731 St Hilda Danby Guisborough to William Sleightham?
