James Mulholland Born 1895 Hull.

This is a real mystery,I have found James Mulholland's Royal Navy records which stated he was born in Hull in Feb,1895. found him on the 1911 census as a Bargeman aged 16yrs. have his marriage cert, with father's name being also James Mulholland a Hotel Keeper. he married in 1921 in Farnham Surrey. ro Alice Norris. now I have searched every available place for a birth entry for this guy and he does not seem to be registered anywhere,ancestry doe not have it neither does find my past or freebmd. I have run out of places to search, anyone got any ideas of where I can search next for this birth entry please.

It could be that "James" is actually John:

You need to track this family to find out if he fits in and if he is the same one as marrying above.

Familysearch: 1901 cen there is a John D Mulholland, nephew, birth 1893 Hull, aged 8 yrs, Dairycoates St Mary & St Peter, Hessle - I have checked the actual image and it has the following:
37 Havelock St, Edith Ann Moore, wife, married, 23, no occp (usually in Hull this refers to her being a wife of a Mariner etc), born Hull with dau Norah Moore, 2, born Hull and John D Mulholland, nephew, 8, born Hull - Class: RG13; Piece: 4479; Folio: 62; Page: 23

So could these above be your James and his father James too maybe his mother died at birth or soon after and Edith Ann Moore brought him up

Familysearch there is this entry: 1901 cen there is also James Mulholland aged 6 years, c1895 Hull, St Phillips, East Sculcoates - I have checked the actual image and it is surname Hollandes.

Thank you Wendy for your information, I had wondered about that James Mulholland marriage in 1890, could that have been James 1895 father. the James who I am trying to trace a birth record for died when he was only 39yrs.old in Farnham,Surrey. he was a great grandfather of a friend of mine, we are both baffled that we cannot find an actual birth entry so that we could send for his birth certificate, that would then give us his mothers name.will check out this 1901 widower James Mulholland aged 41yrs.

I was going to suggest that he was born with a different surname, and his parents married soon after.

Have you managed to find any more of his military service - (I saw the ships on ancestry) ?

The death says he was aged 39, so should be born 1894/1895, so that 8th February 1895 as stated in war records..

I can't see a match either on FreeBMD for a James Mulholland in the Mar qtr. 1895

Is it possible his pob may be incorrect – perhaps he was born in Scotland

There are 2 James Mulhollands born in Scotland in 1895, according to scotlandspeople.

In 1901 census I can see one of them, possibly with a relative Annie Mulholland from Aberdeen age 49.  They are living in a lodging house and James is a Quay porter,born Glasgow and living in Glasgow.
