Most of the old gravestones seem to have been removed. The two Rickinghalls are non-identical twins, half a mile apart. Down in the middle of this large village, the church of the medieval parish of Rickinghall Inferior is feminine and gorgeous. That of former Rickinghall Superior is more masculine, and rather reserved. This arises partly because it is redundant, but also because of the way in which the Rickinghall bypass thoughtlessly cuts it off from its community. Despite the proximity of the busy Diss to Bury road, the graveyard is a lovely place. The Inferior and superior refer to the fact that one was on higher land than the other. I have a lot of relatives from the 1700s buried there.

Hi, I have COLLINS and BAILEY in one of my family trees......James Collins married Ann Clark (Clarke) in 1789. James was a widow and parents John & Mary ?. Ann's parents were John Clark (Clarke) and Mary Franks.....do these connect at all with your tree.  James & Ann's grandson William Collins moved to Australia date unknown at this stage. William married Ann Pearce 23 Mar 1843 Rickinghall Superior and had approx 11 children.  Some of these moved to australia with parents, one of these Benjamin Collins is the direct line I am researching.....do you know any further details regarding the Collins family from around Rickinghall?
Cheers Sue

Hi Sue, welcome to RootsChat. I don't know how much of William's tree you have, but I came across this reference in Newspaper Archives. I haven't got a current subscription, but someone may be able to help if you think it may be useful. Here is the snippet:-

Diss Express Norfolk, England
10 Oct 1890
RICKINGHALL
Wednesday, the Bth inst., on the body of William Collins, Rickinghall Superior. It appears that Collins, in company with Robert Hammond, started to walk home on Monday about 11 o’clock at night. Being late Collins asked Hammond to let him sleep at his house...……

There are also several birth of Collins children n Hartismere Hundred, which covers Rickinghall, on Free BMD.
James 1837
Male 1838
Susannah 1839
Rose 1841
Harriet 1841
Charles 1842
James 1843
Henry 1844
Emma 1845
William 1848
Emma 1848
Edwards 1848
Caroline 1849
Ann 1850
Emma 1850
Harriet Sophia 1850
Christopher 1851

The list goes on. I'm not suggesting that they are all siblings, but may be cousins of members of your family. Possibly worth some research. Good hunting!!
