Chasty Family - Coastguards
« on: Monday 13 July 15 08:01 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am after information for my husband's ancestry. He had gggrandparents who were worked for the Coastguards. I have found a few things through their website and also a couple of things here and there.

Just wondering if anyone would have any clues on where I may get further information about Edward & James Chasty.

Thank you  :)

The Coastguards of Yesteryear website reports:

Edward Chasty, born England, stationed at Curracloe (from Ireland 1901 census)
James Chasty, born Lamerton Devon, stationed at Moville (1901 census) and Bray (1911 census)

As they were both born in England, I would suggest looking at census and BMD records?

From the 1901 census:

Coolrainey, Ardcolm,  Wexford

Chasty, Edward  Head  M  38  Boatsman HM Coastguard  b England
Chasty, Isabella  Wife  F  20  b Scotland
Chasty, James  Son  M  2  b Co. Wexford
Chasty, Margaret  Daughter  F  11 months  b Co Wexford
McCaughie, Elizabeth  Niece  F  13  b Scotland

So, a marriage in Scotland looks likely?

Carrownaffe, Castlecarey, Donegal

Chasty, James  Head  M  41  Chief Boatsman HM Coastguard  b Lamerton, Devon
Chasty, Clara  Wife  F  41  b Newfounland
Chasty, Ellen  Daughter  F  10  b Co. Dublin
Chasty, William  Son  M  8  b Co. Dublin
Chasty, Richard  Son  M  7  b Co. Down
Chasty, John  Son  M  6  b Co. Down
Chasty, Alice  Daughter  F  1  b Co. Down

Hi Karen

Is it their working life or their genealogy that you are needing help with ?

If it's working life, if there was something re them it may show up on irishnewspaperarchives ~ a sub site ~ with an unusual surname it should show up something (IF there was any newspaper references to them).

Might I suggest that you ask the moderators to move this to Ireland ~ GENERAL given that there are a few counties that you are dealing with.

You haven't said whether you want information further back (English records) or of their time in Ireland but since you've posted on Wexford board...

Edward Chasty- www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wexford/Ardcolm/Coolrainey/1803145

James Chasty- www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Castlecarey/Carrownaffe/1185234
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wicklow/Bray_No__2/Newcourt/891498

Wonder if this James Chasty is any connection- born in England- and in 1911 has a daughter Clara:

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Chasty John Norrish, 12207, Corporal, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, 8th June 1916, born Portaferry. John was the son of James and Clara Lucretia Chasty, of Portaferry, Co. Down, Ireland.
Chasty Richard Christopher, Service Number 9834, Lance Corporal, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, died from wounds, 7th September 1915, born Portaferry.

Other places I see James's middle name as Orlando.
