Thanks for all the replies. I have perhaps wrongly assumed that the East Midlands wasn't a place that people of Eastern European descent settled. I looked into the .4% and on the forums at 23andme it has been suggested that the programme merely attempts to give a best fit of roughly 100% as it is difficult to predict actual percentages. No idea how true that is but I make 100.1% if you take into account that the Southern Europe and Sardinian seem to be the same thing!

Just want to open this thread again. Are there any Brits here who have tested and got Eastern European on Ancestry Composition with 23andme and if so, what is your known ancestry?
Thanks.

I got 3% Eastern European on ancestry.  My known ancestry is across Scotland and Northern England (Lancashire and Northumberland).

Hi pharmaT: Thanks for your reply. I think Ancestry works out it's results differently to 23andme so I don't know how common it is for Brits to get it at Ancestry. My Mum gets 8% Eastern European at Ancestry but none at 23andme but she is half UK half unknown American. I have shared with nearly 200 UK 23andme customers and only 2 so far get Eastern European and that is below 1% and they have brick walls in their trees. He doesn't want to do anymore DNA tests so Ancestry isn't an option :(

I was tested with 23andme and had zero Middle Eastern. 6 months later I had my mother tested and suddenly they recalculated my DNA and I was more British (from 44% to 76%) but gained 0.1% Middle Eastern (from 0% to 0.1%). My mother has zero Middle Eastern in her DNA results. I can't do my father to 're-recalculate' my DNA again. Most of my DNA is Northern European and a small 0.3 Southern European then the 0.1% Middle Eastern.
