Puzzled about baptism
« on: Thursday 16 July 15 20:37 BST (UK) »
John Maher and Rose Gilligan have several children baptised in Mullingar between 1857 and 1873.

On film number 09487/10, page 10, there are several Maher/Gilligan baptisms - 1857 Mary, and 1861 John.

However there's also a Christopher baptised in 1858, with parents Christopher Maher and Rose Gilligan.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this - was Rose a bit of a one, or is this a possible  mistranscription? I've tried to see if I can find this baptism in the handwritten register, but assuming I am looking at the right book, the image is very faint.

Any and all ideas appreciated.

Bristol: Woodman/James/Derrick
Bristol/Somerset: Saunders/Wilmot
Gloucestershire:Woodman/Mathews/Tandy/Stinchcombe/Marten/Thompson
Wiltshire: Mathews
Carmarthen: Thomas, Lewis
Australia: Mary Lewis, transportee, married Henry Brown - what happened to her?

A good idea might be to post a link to it so people can look at it!

Here's the link for the typewritten register.

And the handwritten one

It's the 5th line down from the top.

Unless I'm looking at completely the wrong thing the typed transcript doesn't marry up with the handwritten book

The typed copy is just a transcript so subject to human error in copying the register. I read the original as Christ[ophe]r with parents John & Rose Gilligan- the writing isn't difficult to decipher.

Yes, it took my eyes (which aren't the best in the world) a while to adjust. I haven't worked out what the first name of the second sponsor is, surname Moran, think the initial letter of the first name is B
