I'm trying to put a connection to my 4th Great Grandmother Sophia JOHNS Nee Tibbles and Joseph TIBBLES, both from Leicestershire:
Sophia Tibbles, born about 1807 (To Richard & Mary) married William Johns on the 16 Oct 1825 in Leicester. From those I have found they are the following children:
James about 1830
Hannah about 1831
Harriett about 1836
Emma in 1841 (My 3rd Great Grandmother)
William about 1844
Thomas about 1846
The family emigrated to Australia, arriving in Tasmania on board the Ocean Chief on 25 Mar 1855, along with William and Sophia niece, Harriett Myring (Daughter of Sophia's sister Pheobe). They were sponsored by Joseph Tibbles.
Details on Joseph Tibbles:
Born about 1822/1826 he was Convicted of Stealing 2 shovels he was sent as a convict to Tasmania on board the Emerald Isle arriving 12 Oct 1843.
He married fellow convict Catherine Crummings (Numerous spelling versions)
They moved to Victoria & South Australia, Australia. Catherine died on South Australia, then Joseph moved to New Zealand where he died in 1898.
His convict indent records mentions parents being William and Sophia, a brother James and sisters Anna, Emma & Harriett.
Joseph was the witness for Harriett Myrings marriage & William and Sophia Johns lived in Deloraine, Tasmania, the same town as Joseph.
Sophia Johns and Joseph Tibbles are obviously related. I'm now thinking that Joseph Tibbles was a son of William and Sophia Johns, and possible born out of wedlock, taking the name of Tibbles. However, cant find anything to confirm.
Any help or suggestions would be great.
Cheers
