Lieutenant Gourley (Gourlay) Todd, RAF
« on: Sunday 19 July 15 12:21 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can add anything to what we already know.

He was born in 1900 at Kilmacolm, went to Warriston School, Moffat and Fettes College, Edinburgh, attended Glasgow University where he was in the OTC. In December 1917, he joined the RNAS and trained as a pilot before transferring to the RAF in June 1918, then transferring to the Reserve on 18 April 1919. He was employed in a CA's office from June 1919 to June 1920 and then a Stockbroker's, probably his father.

We know that he received a pension when he was diagnosed with dementia praecox (schizophrenia, I believe) and died in 1971. We think that after diagnosis, he may have spent his life in Crichton Royal, at Dumfries.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Was his illness related to his RAF service?

His death cert will confirm where he died

We think his illness came after 1923 and we do not yet know if any relationship existed

Yes, he died at Dumfries in 1971.
