Richards brothers. Patagonia to Canada, 1902
« on: Sunday 19 July 15 12:51 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the descendants of 3 of 6 children, all brothers, that went to Canada, from the Welsh settlement in Patagonia, (via Liverpool), to Saskatchewan in 1902, . They were the children of William Emberson Richards, B 1838 and all were born in Anglesey.
William Emberson Richards, Jnr. B 1876
                         Robert Parry Richards                B 1877
                         Michael John Richards                B 1880

I have a note that they settled in the Saltcoats area. Does anyone have further details for these three gents?
Richards in Anglesey. Liverpool, Cardiganshire.
Richards in Patagonia and Canada. Owens and Williams in Holyhead. Laird family, Birkenhead. Richards-Bridges family, Epsom.

Hi,

The 1911 Canadian census Saltcoats, Saskatchewan
Richards, Michael J. age 28, b. Wales, head, single, imm. yr. 1902, farmer
Richards, William E. age 35, b. Wales, brother, single, imm. yr. 1911 farmer
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=76169

Was there another brother or perhaps cousin Edward P.? He is listed just below Michael
and William.

Cheers,
DB

Thanks for your reply.
I have a note that Edward Parry Richards, (1882-1924), (a brother of the above), was born in Patagonia and I may have placed W.E. Richards as going to Canada in error. Edward was in Patagonia when he died leading me to believe that he didn't go to Canada with the others. I have a wife for him, Annie Rees ... they had 9 children.

Hi,
further details from an old e-mail.

[Robert, Margaret and Henry stayed in Patagonia.  In later years Ted who was by then married and had children went back to Patagonia to help out, William E. was not well. He never made it back to Canada for various reasons, the war being one of them, he died in Patagonia of typhoid fever.]

I believe that Robert is the brother born in 1877, Margaret, his wife. Edward is the brother born in
1882. Now I see that he returned to Patagonia to look after the W E Richards from the first post. Both appear to have died there. This leaves just Michael and Robert in Canada.

I'm thinking that Robert never went to Canada and it's just Michael who is not accounted for?

Is there a possibility that he also went "home" to Argentina?

Found this fascinating:
