Lenc, sorry, posts crossed. The piece I posted is from Francis' marriage entry.

A thought....

I think maybe Francis died young. There is a possible death in Ayrshire on the index for www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for a Francis McArdle in 1913 who was born c. 1873. Would fit with what you have mentioned. Scottish deaths are very informative and include full details on deceased person's parents and spouse if married (if know to the informant).

Might be one for you to check...

No this is the right will I linked above. He mentions his sons and daughters all of whom I knew of.

Cant be Francis dying in 1913 as he is mentioned in the will Father who died in 1915

I will try the new names you have given me and the info as well on Ancestry first before Scotlands people to try and narrow it down a bit.

Many thanks to you all for taking the time to help out a rookie!

Check to see what date the father wrote his Will- could have written it before 1913 (thus mentioning son Francis)?

It certainly is his death, verifiable with his parents' names as you have. From early January 1913..

Monica,  that's fantastic!  Thanks so much for these!

So sad, such a young man. I think he might have had kids too, so very tough.

I never would have found this myself,as I would have looked only afer the death of his father!

There are 11 McArdle births showing in Hurlford between 1895 and 1913, the years of Francis' marriage and death. You have some of the already from the 1901 census transcript that aghadowey posted earlier. The 1911 census, shows 8 additional people alongside Francis in Hurlford. This would be a good way for you to expand on Francis' descendants. Some children may have died young. The 1911 would let you confirm the household and children's names etc.

As an aside my family roots in Armagh contain an Anne McArdle and George Loughran (my great great grandfather).  So its interesting to see there are other McArdle Loughran connections.
