Cottlaig, Scotland?
« on: Monday 20 July 15 13:40 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Could anyone advise on the following 2 points please:

1. POB of John Frail: Cottlaig? (can't read this), Scotland - can't find any place which corresponds...
2. If the head of the family is John Frail why has the census been signed John Gott?

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Cottbrig - as in Coatbridge, maybe?

No idea about an answer to the other question!

I agree the birthplace looks like it should be Coatbridge. If you page back in the census the previous household to this has a 23 year old John Gott living there. Perhaps John Frail could not write well and asked his neighbour to help him.

I agree but would imagine it was said in a "west coast" accent & brig means bridge  :P
