... just been doing some 'googling' and it appears St Giles in the Fields (where Martha is in 1851) and Marylebone  (where Michael and Martha are in 1841) regions contained Irish communities.

... I've been working on the theory that Ellen Gibbons (next door to Martha in 1851) is itperhaps Michaels widowed mother - if you see my previous posts Ellen is with Garrett Gibbons in 1841, aged 55 and 50 respectively.  I saw a death on FreeBMD for a Garrett Gibbons 1850, when the cert came it gave his age as 40 and he died in Workhouse at St Martin in the Fields. It could be him I suppose even though his age is 20+years out  :-\.  I haven't been able to establish a link between the Ellen and Garrett in 1841 to Martha/Michael. Its poss that his parents may have come over from Ireland and he was born in London.
