So "Probate to the bank".

Will that mean that (only) son Robert is not around? (NZ?)

Lol

I didn't even notice that was posted by someone else.

Yes that was a rather large amount left by Margaret M Paterson.  Does that read that her estate went to the bank?

So if she died in 1948 then their may have been no living relatives to leave it to? Or did they own the money to the bank?

I am fairly confident that it was Margaret's family who were financially comfortable - or so it seems.

Probate to bank means that they are administering the estate (executors)

Maybe any possible heirs have passed on.
Try for a copy of the will?

Shirlene, what dates do your Paterson group first appear in NZ?

Robert, the father, left a will in 1913, his widow Margaret & Samuel Paterson (farmer, relative?) were the executors

still useful to have but may not make much reading

Thanks Ray.

Yes it's interesting as to where Robert went... I will keep searching for him.  I don't think he came to NZ.  We only knew about his Uncle Samuel (who farmed at Newbury Farm, Silsoe) and the two aunties  (Jane and Lillias).  We didn't know about his father Robert and other uncle James.  So have had many surprises already.  I recall family talking about some relations who moved to America/Canada  so that is possible.

Our John Robert Paterson moved to NZ and first appears around 1903.  I would love to know his journey here.  But as a beginner I have yet to learn all the avenues to find this.
