It was only just recently (within 5-10 years) that a bus halt sign in Banchory was changed!

This is not Banchory though.

I'm thinking a flat piece of coast, houses looking towards sea. Possibly somewhere in England.

I'd agree with some of that - the pebbles next to the verge look as though they may have been washed over by a high tide - but I was thinking Scotland. In some way I can't really define, the steep roofs and dormer windows (or semi-dormer, if that's a term) just look more Scottish than English to me.

Yes. I agree with that "hunch"

Even the electric supply  is reminiscent of Scotland little villages.

The octagonal dormers of the third(ish) house on the left particularly strike me as Scottish - found a few examples of the right style in Wigtownshire - e.g. at Sorbie and Whithorn, but nothing to match this scene yet.

I've just worked out where it reminds me of - Shore Street in Ullapool.  Don't think it is though - if nothing else, there are no hills at the end of the road.

Could it be Colvend, on the Solway Firth?

Kipford  also Dumfries and Galloway.  Even the Bus Halt is in the same place, I think?

I am trying to identify individual buildings.

But as another village hunter said earlier, they thought it was at the  waters edge.

Ullapool also has sea on the right. http://www.instantstreetview.com/@57.895811,-5.158888,59.02h,4.86p,1z

Doesn't the original photo have houses on both sides of the road? The shadows on the road seem to indicate poles on the right hand side.
