Ponsford's in Australia

I wondered if any one had any information on the Ponsford family in Australia.

I have found out that my family is related to Bill Ponsford, the famous cricket player. I wondered if any one had pictures/certificates etc of him or his family. It would really help me out.

Hi Barry,

I don't know how far you have progressed since your post....

My family have been trying to tell me that I'm related to William "Bill" Ponsford the famous cricket player from Australia.

If anyone has any ideas about William's family, I know his father was William Holt Ponsford (1874-1938), if anyone know his family that would be very helpful.

....but this is incorrect.  Bill PONSFORD's father was just plain 'William', not 'William Holt' and he was born in Victoria in 1874 to William PONSFORD and Eliza Jane HOCKING.  He died in 1934, not 1938.

Bill's grandfather William died in 1905 aged 67.  His death cert names his parents as William PONSFORD and Jane PARR.

PONSFORD - On the 18th January, at Nurse Collinson's private hospital, Carlton, William, the dearly beloved husband of E. J. Ponsford, and father of W. Ponsford, letter-carrier, G.P.O., and S. Ponsford, late of Bendigo. Sweet rest. No flowers.

Despite what Wikipedia (and John Leckey) say,  I think the above William probably arrived in 1862 on the ship Suffolk, not during the 1850's goldrush.

There was a William Holt PONSFORD born in London in 1874.  He married in London in 1904 to Mabel Elizabeth LARBEY.  Perhaps that is who you are looking for.

Thanks for all the hits, I have found the people that you talked about, so thank you all.

Derba - the ship sailed on the 27 Aug 1862 and was called the Suffolk, it arrived in Australia on the 7 Nov 1862.

Does any one know where William Ponsford and Jane Parr were married, or any other information on them.
