Children of William Patterson and Jane Sutherland my Great grandparents

William b abt 1853 in Kirknewton and Jane b abt 1853 in Dunbeath married on 14 Jul 1876, Edinburgh, and had a son William b abt 1877 in Edinburgh before moving to Glasgow.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion I have been checking www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk but the information is a little confusing!
One Adam shows up in the 1911 census but it's the wrong family.
I have now found Alexander single in English 1911 census as a member of the Cameron Highlanders
Still ploughing through for the others.

I have a lot of information on Jane Sutherland and ancestors but have struggled with the Paterson clan!
William b abt 1853 was the son of Robert Paterson and Helen Hunter as detailed on their marriage certificate but I can't go back any further than his parents. If only parents back then had known that their family tree addicted descendants would be driven to distraction by the common Christian names they gave to the offspring and the confusion it causes!!
The information on the various marriages is most helpful and I shall now try to build on that.
I really appreciate the trouble that you have gone to and the information you have provided.

I looked for births of William in Midlothian between 1855-1860 and there are 23 but none in Liberton which is where the births of two brothers occurred.You would have to go through all of them to find which is his.

according to death cert Helen's father was an agricultural labourer and yet this other John Hunter is a coal miner yet he lives where Helen Hunter & Robert Paterson. What is the connection???
