... any deaths and cemetery's would be brill planning a visit 2016 ...

Are you sure William and Anna Sophia died in Ireland?

GRONI online has a civil birth record for a Martha Lilley, born 20 March 1898, registered Belfast district, mother's maiden name Robinson.  The 1901 Scotland census has a ship's carpenter William Lilley and wife Anna with a 3 year old daughter Martha Lilley living in Renfrewshire (all born in Ireland).

And still in Renfrewshire in 1911, with 4 more children. And a possible marriage for Martha Lilley to a William Murray in Renfrewshire in 1920.

Well, that would explain why I couldn't find William Lilley and his wife in 1901 and 1911 Irish census  ::)

gaffy, thanks for letting me know about this thread. I've been on holiday, hence missed seeing it sooner.  :)

larky, hello  :). Lilley is one of my lines of research. My fellow rootschatters seem to have already given you some good info on this thread, which has no doubt been of great help to you.

I'll hopefully have time to PM you over the weekend, and share what research I have gathered over numerous years, including William's Scottish death record and his dad Joseph's Irish death record. From memory, I may also have a newspaper item about William and Anna's son Joseph's death, which as you already know, was as a result of being hit by a bus.

Regarding William and Anna's son, William, whom I understand from the PM you sent (which I have just read too), is the line you are interested in. Can you confirm that the Iris Figgins you mentioned as his wife was a second marriage? From memory his wife Edith Irwin and their son Albert Lilley, were killed during the Belfast Blitz of 1941, when it would seem she was visiting her parents at Hogarth Street. They, along with her father and brother, who were also killed, are recorded on the CWGC website. Edith and Albert are buried at City Cemetery, Glenaline extension, Belfast.

Selena Lilley married 1896- her father's name was Joseph. Can't see a likely birth but perhaps was registered under a different first name or simply as 'female.'

Janette McNeill Lilley born 1880 (father Joseph).
