John MORNING and Elizabeth Nicol
« on: Thursday 23 July 15 05:22 BST (UK) »
John Morning was born c1821 in Johnstone, son of John Morning & Janet McLachlan (both from Co Antrim);  Elizabeth Nicol was born c1820 in Co Antrim, dtr of John Nicol & Mary Campbell.

John & Elizabeth Morning had 10 children, Mary c1843 (my great-great grandmother), John c1845, William c1849, Lavinia 1852, James c1854, Matthew 1856, David 1858, Elizabeth 1860, Janet 1862 & Agnes 1864, all born in Johnstone.

I know that Matthew, David & Elizabeth emigrated to the USA.

The surname MORNING has been transcribed as Morrow, Marning, Murray and Murey.

Any cousins out there?

Hi, don't know if there are any cousins out there but if you follow the Morning lines found in Ireland & Scotland it may expand the amount of cousins ad some names.
In 1841 census the only Morning I found was John Morning age 25,his wife Jean age 20 & son David 1 yr living in Abbey,Renfrew. If you move forward to the 1851 census there are 17 male Mornings living in Ayr,Renfrew & Lanark plus 1 Mornin.
Looking at Ireland, I found a few references to Mornins which should help narrow any search area if you want to try to locate the family further back.

1740 Protestant Householders List:
Adam Morning
parish:Ballyaghran
barony:Coleraine
county:Derry

1820s/1830s Tithe Applotment Books(for North Antrim/N.E. Liberties):
John Morning
1829
parish:Ballyaghran
barony:N.E. Liberties
county:Derry

1831 county Derry census:
Thomas Morning
townland:Castleroe
parish:Macosquin
barony:Coleraine

John Morning
townland:Kiltinny Upper
parish:Ballyaghran
barony:N.E. Liberties

It looks as though they may have been more from county Derry than county Antrim although the lines blur many times between those two counties. Hope this is useful, Kim

Hi Kim

Thankyou, but those names & places don't ring any bells.

The John Morning age 25 in 1841 in Abbey you mention, he (to my knowledge) isn't one of "mine"; he may be a distant relative, but I'll probably never know.  Most of my Mornings lived in Johnstone, but a few of them lived at some time in Paisley.

Thanks again, much appreciated.
