Jane Rollo Gordon m.s.Nicoll
« on: Thursday 23 July 15 20:28 BST (UK) »
Hi there

In the family tree I have Jane (Jean) Rollo Nicoll born 27 Sep 1892 in Dundee, Scotland, daughter of William Robertson Nicoll and Margaret Robertson. She married David Hutchison Gordon on 15 Jan 1913 at 5 Rustic Place, Perth, Scotland. David was born on 30 Nov 1890 also in Dundee.

Jane sailed from Glasgow, Scotland on 29 Jan 1916 on board the S.S. "Cameronia" with her daughter Jane Rose and arrived in New York, USA on 10 Feb 1916 to join her husband David Gordon, c/o Hendry, 182 Margueretta Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In the 1921 Sixth Census of Canada they were residing at 258 Hillsdale, Toronto, Ontario. There were three more children born in Ontario; David born 1917, George born 1919 and Rose born 1921

Can anyone shed more light on Jane and the family for me please?

Regards

Possibly headstones for your couple.

Children David and Rose died before 1921 census and are buried in Mt. Pleasant Toronto.

Hi cosmac

What a great find! The additional info for the children helps too.

Hopefully there may be more to come.

Hi Chiad Fhear,
I'm presuming you have Jane's Scottish history and are now exploring her life in Canada so this might not be of interest.

Anyways, yesterday on 'Lost Dundee' they posted a link to a story about Rosefield Street. I believe your Jane is living at number 10 with her maternal grandparents in 1901 - else this IS totally irrelevant!

Hi jennywren001 and dbreez

The help with my quest is greatly appreciated.  I do have all the relevant Scottish records and stories already and, yes, now centering on Canada.

The Dundee Courier article isn't in my local edition - I live to the south of the Dundee, in Fife - so I'll look at it online.

Hi,

From the Lindsay Daily Post Newspaper 1966
"David H. Gordon, former police chief of Fenelon Falls, and Mrs. Gordon retire from
Toronto to Fenelon Falls."
Click on Document PDF, lower right side, to view article.

Hi DB

Many thanks for that great little story. David did well for himself. When he left Dundee for Canada in 1914, destination Toronto, his intended occupation was that of 'policeman'.

Do you know how I can find the actual date in 1966 that the article appeared in the Lindsay Daily Post?

Hi,

You're welcome. :)

I am not finding an exact date for that article.  :P  On the link to the article, bottom left
side, they give a contact as Kawartha Lakes Public Library with an email address. Perhaps
an email to them, and you may want to include a query as to their obits.

Cheers,
