Ann Trewartha Gwennap Baptism
« on: Tuesday 28 July 15 16:39 BST (UK) »
Afternoon everyone

I was wondering if someone could assist in a small request

Anne Trewartha married Stephen Treague in Gwennap on 20th October 1827, the witnesses were John Martin and Henry Treague.

Stephen died in 1838 and Anne died in 1878.

According to the census entries and death record, she was born around 1800 and 1801

These are some corresponding baptisms, all taken in Gwennap, her parish. I added the one in 1809 because birth years are not always accurate on the census and of course, she could have been several years old at baptism

5 January 1809 Parents John and Jane

4 March 1804 Parents John and Ann

26th December 1804 Parents William and Sarah

7 October 1801 Parents Mark and Mary

There are some trees on ancestry with Ann on there, however none of them put Stephen Treague as a spouse. Stephen and Ann had a daughter named Elizabeth in Redruth, Elizabeth married John Nicholls

I would appreciate it if someone could help figure out which baptism is hers

my thanks

purely circumstantial, but if you look at her census entry for 1841, she is living next door to Mark Trewartha enumerated as 60 and John enumerated as 25 & Elisha 20. Mark Trewartha died later that year, his burial is on the opc database. Quite possible that his eldest daughter would be living next door to him. If Mary is the eldest daughter (13 on the 1841 census) she would probably have been called after Ann's mother, common naming pattern.

As some of her daughters are employed by the mine, you may be interested in this site

Hi Osprey

Thanks for replying

In several cases, I have come across people living next door to relatives, in one case a ancestor was living next door to her father.

Families usually stayed close in some areas so they could assist each other

I have a feeling Mary and Mark are the parents because the others are many years off, and the census gives Ann consistently as 1801.

The fact that a Mark Trewartha is living next door to Ann may prove they are related.

Wish there was more proof though

perhaps get the death cert for Mark to set who registered it? You might be lucky & Ann was person present.

So from the evidence, it looks like Mark is Ann's father

Looking at the baptisms, there is a Mark baptised in 1780 to Sebastian and Sarah Trewartha. However, in trying to find out the birth and death year of his father, there are plenty of possibilities for Sebastian's baptism, however I cannot find a marriage

not sure what records you're looking at. Try the opc database

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/person-search/

Sebastian Trewartha married Sarah Kella 9 July 1757 in Gwennap, witnesses Hugh Kella & Anthony Barnett.

I thought that was the marriage too, however its quite a gap from 1757 to 1780

Means that Mark could be the youngest of several children and that by the time Mark was born, Sebastian was already probably in his late 40s going onto 50

you can check all the baptisms to the couple by searching on Sebastian's name. Yes, Mark was the last. It looks like Sarah was a few years younger than her husband, she was baptised in 1739.
