I found the information about her birth in Killorglin from the 1911 British census.  I have her marriage certificate which shows her address at that time (1897)as a hotel in Dublin. She married my grandfather, James Davis, in a Church of Ireland ceremony at St. Thomas in Dublin. My grandfather was a soldier in the 14th Hussars stationed at Newbridge Barracks. Their first child, my uncle James Walter Davis was born in Kildare in 1898.  My father, George William Davis was born in Worcester, England in 1899.

I'm wondering might she have actually been baptised Mary Alice yet adapted Alice in later years.

It's common.

Here is a possibility with parents John McCarthy and Mary Malley.

This couple.were from  Killorglin as you can see by an earlier daughter they had by the same name.

IF we are dealing with the correct couple then it would appear that Alice Mary was Catholic yet married COI obviously as her husband to be was.

Tara--Thank you so much.  This does seem like a possibility.  I am going to search through more of my father's papers to see if there is any hint of the month in which his mother was born.  Even her birth year varies depending upon the documents I have seen.

It"s common as birthdays back then weren't the hoo ha that they are these days.

Most just did a rough guess when asked on later paperwork.
