Windows 8.1 Query.
« on: Thursday 30 July 15 10:34 BST (UK) »
Hi All.
On my desktop I am running windows 8.1 which I intend to stay with (don't fancy windows 10).
Can anybody tell me if Microsoft have announced how long they will be supporting the 8.1 version for.
Regards Dave.

Windows 8.1 falls under the same lifecycle policy as Windows 8, and will reach end of Mainstream Support on January 9, 2018, and end of Extended Support on January 10, 2023.

Dave - I had Windows 8.1 and upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday evening.  I have to say there is very little difference, apart from the fact that you now find the apps if you click on the Microsoft window icon on the bottom left hand corner of the task bar.  There are extra apps that 8.1 doesn't have, some might be useful to you, some not.  I uninstalled all the apps I wasn't interested in.

Oh yes, if you've got a printer that prints in 3D you can do that from Windows 10, but when I checked you can also do it from 8.1 if you download the appropriate app.

Hi LizzieW.
Thank you for the info regarding Windows 10.
I find that version 8.1 does everything that I require and don't see the point in upgrading to a system that gives me applications that I do not need or want. If I change my mind I believe that I have a year to upgrade free.
Regards Dave.

Hi Dave

You're right, but I thought I'd get it to see what the fuss was about - because it was free  ::)
