The book of MIs for Dalmellington Old Graveyard doesn't show any Leonards/ McCairneys or anything similar.

Thanks for checking for me Isabel - much appreciated.  I did think they'd be too poor for a stone but it was worth a try.  The most likely explanation is they died in Dalmellington between 1851 and 1854 and were buried there but with no death records and no stone I'll never know for sure.
