David Thompson born about 1854 born Sligo
« on: Saturday 01 August 15 02:50 BST (UK) »
The information I have for David is from his Australian Death Certificate Registration No 1935/3603.  It has his birthplace as Kellovan Sligo Ireland and he would have been born about 1854.  Parents are listed as Father David Thompson and Mother Elizabeth Craig.  Some of his children's births have him born Killoran Sligo.  His death notice has him going to New Zealand before arriving in Australia  I have no idea of his religion.  Any info would be a help

There doesn't seem to be a place called Kellovan in Sligo, so this might be a misinterpretation or incorrect name given by the informant.
There is a Killoran:

If he married in Australia his marriage certificate would confirm place of birth and parent's names and would be more reliable as he himself would have provided the information.
Catholic registers are now online:

If the registers for the time you are searching are included on the site, you will need to trawl through the filmed pages I'm afraid.

Added: Is there a clue to his religion in his burial details, his children's christenings or his marriage if he married in Australia?

Added: Thompson does not sound like an Irish surname - he may not have been Catholic. This might help:

Too late for your chap, but here are some showing up in 1901 in Sligo:

Keep in mind you may need to consider Thomson too, which tends to be a Scottish surname, so maybe some migration from Scotland to Ireland - there was a lot of movement between the two.  :)

Thompson and Thomson are just different forms of the same name and used interchangeably in Ireland and Scotland.

Even though David Thompson was born before the start of registration of births (1864) this might be a sibling-
female born 1865 Co. Sligo https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FR4M-T5L

Possible sister? Kate Thompson born c1864 Ireland married Canada- (see scanned image for full details)- could even be the above female child?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FMVX-MK6

Then, a death record lists an Elizabeth born c1855 Ireland-

It's possible that these are not all the same family but might be worth following up.

Which may not matter much as it's more likely the Thompson were Church of Ireland. However, many earlier C. of I. registers no longer survive.

Added- as I suspected-
