Help with reading a ship document
« on: Saturday 01 August 15 15:53 BST (UK) »
Hi I'm new to the group so hope I'm posting this in the right place. I would be so grateful if some one could help me read the main body of this text. I can understand  the first couple of words "24 hours notice will be given" then the odd word after that but not enough for it to make sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

This is what I get:

24 hours notice to be given on either side for their discharge.  Fireman and sailors to mutually assist one another and to keep forecastle and berths clean.  Fireman to keep galley(?) supplied with coal.  Any man absent when required or drunk will be discharged immediately.

I thought that's what it was, but not knowing the term….however, I now know it's the upper deck of a ship! Learn something everyday!  ;D ;D

Forecastle
Forecastles and berths

Is "galley" correct?  Wasn't sure about that one either.
