Harry Gilbert of Tunbridge Wells

Im looking for family information of Harry Gilbert who from 1927 to 1969 ran a haulage contractors and coach service business from premises at 8 Sutherland Road T.Wells and North Farm Rd in Highbrooms,Southborough.

The Gazette of October 18,1974 stated that Harry was of 8 Sutherland Rd when he died on April 19,1974. His next of kin was given as Alice Stern Gilbert, who was his daughter.

The Death index gave "Harry Gilbert born October 18,1893 died Jan Qtr 1974 Tunbridge Wells. The only birth record I found for a Harry Gilbert gave him born Oct qtr 1893 at Uckfield,Sussex.

I found a death record for Alice Stern Gilbert born January 7,1932 and died Jan 1984. Her birth record gave her born 1st qtr 1932 Tunbridge Wells and that her mothers maiden name was Shorter.

I found a marriage record for Harry Gilbert to Elsie E. Shorter (1891-1937) at Tunbridge Wells in the 2nd qtr of 1921. I have all the information I need for Elsie.

I would like to know if Harry and Elsie had other children and details about them. Also want to find out any info about his parents and siblings. I could not find a census record for Harry.

You can use freebmd to find Gilbert births with mmn Shorter and then use freebmd to look for marriages/deaths for them.  There are 4 children listed between 1922-1934

Freebmd shows 3 children born Gilbert mother's maiden name Shorter in Tunbridge Wells. A daughter in 1924, Alice in 1932 and a son in 1934. I wont name them as they may be alive, but you should be able to find them.

Thanks all. Now I have all the info I need about Harry's 4 children. How about the parents of Harry Gilbert born Oct. 18.1893 and of his wife Elsie E. Shorter(1891-1937).I cannot afford to order the marriage certificate for them.

When and where did they marry?

With out his birth certificate it is hard to be certain, but if he was born in Uckfield, I would guess that this could be him in 1901. Crowborough is under the Uckfield registration district

Is there perhaps a marriage record online for Harry to Elsie that would give his fathers name to confirm that he is the Harry born in Crowborough to Frank James Gilbert and Marion?
