Just throwing this into the mix.........

The Ship, 'Sarah M' also from London, arrived at Port Chalmers on December 31st, 1862.

A letter was published in the 'Otago Daily Times' on 9.1.1863, thanking the Captain for his kindness during the voyage. Signed by many on the voyage, one of whom was Anne Burns.

A similar letter appeared concerning the voyage referred to in reply #2. Here the spelling is also Anne, not Ann as in the newspaper passenger list. So maybe the 1862 voyage should also be considered as a possibility??

Hi Claudia

The passengers "Robert and Annie BURNS)" on the ship "Midlothian" 1859 (as already mentioned in Reply # 2), seem a possibility.

This vessel arrived firstly at Wellington and the listing on the Petone Settler's database (immigrants arriving at Wellington), gives only the following.

Ship:  "Midlothian"

BURNS - Robert and Annie

Notes: WI   12/02/59
"May have disembarked Nelson"
Source:  AKL - NZ Soc. of Genealogists

SO, no ages given ... nor any indication of whether the BURNS were a married couple or father / daughter ?

A transcription of the "Midlothian" passenger list (@ NZ Bound) ... again doesn't include ages or relationship details.

It doesn't however record that the BURNS "couple" were steerage passengers.
