Hello aghadowey

Thank you so very much for your latest information.  The 'myheritage' site has revealed so much.  Originally we thought we were looking for five Gormley children.  We thought that Patrick Gormley born 1887 was the eldest but it seems he had ten brothers and sisters!!!  I have found nine of them.  Just been looking in the wrong age group.

Mary 1868, James 1870, Sarah 1872, Ellen 1874, Susan 1876, Margaret 1878, John 1882 and Lanty 1890.  Also found a Catherine but can't find her d.o.b. yet.  So just one more to find.

Really am very grateful for your help.

Kingskerswell

Thank you for the information on the marriage between Lanty Gormley and Ellen Gallagher in 1877.  At the moment I can't make it fit into my husband's family but will keep trying.

Many thanks to you both.

Hello aghadowey

Thank you for confirming the birth year of 1885 for Catherine Gormley.  Just one brother or sister to find now, but ten out of eleven is absolutely brilliant!!!

I can't match Lanty and Ellen directly to the family either.  Perhaps he was a cousin.

I feel another visit to Fermanagh is due!!!

Grateful thanks to all at Roots Chat for your help and time given on our behalf.

Kind regards

Liz

We've actually found all 11 of the Gormley children- 1911 census says 11 children but only 1 living.

1. Mary (26 Dec.1868-bef.1880) bapt. http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632798#page/64/mode/1up
2. James (7 Mar.1870) Bapt. http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632798#page/67/mode/1up
3. Sarah (28 Mar.1872)
4. Ellen (15 June 1874) Bapt. 18 June 1874 http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632798#page/80/mode/1up
5. Susan (6 Oct.1876)
6. Margaret (21 July 1878)
7. Mary Anne (19 June 1880)
8. John (19 Dec.1882)
9. Catherine (17 Mar.1885)
10. Patrick (7 Dec.1887) m.(7 Sept.1911) Mary Anne Gallagher- 3 sons
11. Lanty (1890)

You can check for other baptisms, etc. in registers- http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0290

If this is Mary Anne’s father then it’s like Susan (1876) named for maternal grandmother
Letters of Administration of the personal estate of William Gallagher late of Rossharbour County Fermanagh Farmer deceased who died 20 August 1874 at same place were granted at Armagh to Susan Gallagher of Rossharbour (Leggs) aforesaid the Widow of said deceased.

A recent Patrick Gormley, Leggs death-

May be just a co-incidence but you never know  :)

Hi,
Further to Aghadowey's last post, the 1841 census gives the following Gormley family living in Drumharvey which is just in Co. Tyrone but right  on the border with Fermanagh near Irvinestown.

Lanty age 32
Margaret age 28
Lanty age 77
Edward age 11
James age 9
Anne age 1
Daniel -

It is a bit confusing there. This says 1841 census-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV9D-7157

But when you click on the image it is the 1851 census-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QV9D-7157

They were married 1838 and eldest child born c1839... dates all fit with it being 1851 census.

hello again aghadowey and kingskerswell

Thank you both very much once again for the latest information, has taken quite a lot of studying.

Firstly the death of Paddy Gormley of Leggs in 2014.  Paddy was my husband's father's cousin and Paddy's wife was Sheila and she died in 2012.  We were very lucky to visit with them in 2011.

aghadowey, the information you gave us re the Gormleys' of Drumharvey may not be such a coincidence after all.  We were told that the family originated in County Tyrone but we didn't know where.  I think that this information is correct.

kingskerswell, if the above information is definitely correct then the marriage between Lanty Gormley and Ellen Gallagher in 1877 in Ederney RC Church Irvinestown is the same family.

Thank you both again for your efforts and I will do some more studying now.

Kind regards.

Liz
