Is it, perhaps, Goetre?

GenUKI says:

GOETRE (Goytrey), Monmouthshire

GOYTREY, a parish in the hundred of Upper Abergavenny, county Monmouth, 5 miles N.E. of Pont-y-Pool, and 5 S. of Abergavenny, its post town
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Hi eirwen.
The usual spelling used these days is GOYTRE but the spelling GOETRE is still used by some of the older generation in the area.
The records for this parish are held in the Gwent Records Office in Ebbw Vale and was in the old county of Monmouthshire and as of now is in the new county of Monmouthshire.
Best of luck in your search
